Athena Age Chart

Chart, Timeline, whatevs. It's a representation of Athena's growth~ The adult picture is a placeholder. I have a headache and I don't feel like drawing anymore >-< The CM is also a placeholder. I need to find someone who can vector... or design CMs that don't suck >n<

These are my ideas for the Next Generation of MLP taking place after the events of the show. Please note there are a lot of my head-canons and some of my personal ships/preferred ships. Please be respectful of my opinions

I may have given Athena too much diversity through her age chart/timeline thing. Perhaps I'll adjust it later- maybe include things like specific hairdos she had through various years? I guess these are just a representation of how she generally looked in those time frames. Of course, as a newborn baby she would have had far less hair and be even a bit smaller but like I said, general representation. 

At a later date I will be re-doing pictures I've already done of her to match up with the timeline. I believe I've drawn two teenage pics of her- in which she should have her long messy mane rather than her adult mane. But that is for a later date~

Oh and I will probably be adding more- like changing 'adult' to 'young adult' and adding another adult, maybe throw a few AU versions. Idk.

Baby (More like Toddler tho, I guess?): 1 - 3 years of age, Athena was a happy little filly. Her mane was short and cute and she loved to play with her mommies. Rainbow would throw her a little too high in the air sometimes- and would even fly her around the castle sometimes. Twi' opposed this but she'd sneak Athena out for a slow midnight fly once or twice when Athena couldn't sleep. The night sky and the stars were little baby Athena's favorite thing. She didn't need a rattle or a mobile, just a look up through a ceiling window where she could stare, amazed, at the sky was enough to keep her calm.

She seemed like a perfect little baby, content to sleep in the loving embrace of her mothers. Listening to bed time stories and experiencing amazing dreams filled with constellations, provided by her Auntie Luna. She even played with Spike, always trying to grab his tail and giggling when she caught it.

Foal: 4-10 years old, Athena's personality began to develop. She wore her mane a little longer, though still short. Most of the time she had the white part of her mane in a braid. Twilight had been researching 'how to bond with your foal' after Athena started shying away and smiling less and learned that grooming greatly helps relationships between a parent and their child. So she started braiding her mane every morning, and Rainbow would preen her wing feathers. Athena expressed great anxiety when it came to flying so Rainbow didn't give her anymore rides.

Athena's love for the sky dwindled when she learned how to read and Twilight started giving her magic lessons. She fell in love with books and spells. The first spell she learned also marked the moment she earned her cutiemark. Although the meaning of her cutiemark was unclear, she just knew it had something to do with books and magic so she kept reading and learning about spells. Though learning how to cast a spell is different from having the magical capacity to perform one. Although an alicorn, she was still just a foal and her horn fizzled out more than anything. She could only perform simple spells, such as levitation and small bursts of energy. Her tinkering landed her in trouble a few times as she accidentally broke things- or set them on fire when she failed.

She bonded more with Twilight at this age due to the magic lessons. She had her moments with Rainbow Dash of course but she grew more self-conscious of her gimpy wings, especially when she entered grade school. (Although the academy seemed excellent for her, Twilight wanted her to find friends and become less socially inept.) No one teased her directly, since she was the daughter of Princesses Twilight Sparkle and Rainbow Dash, but she could hear them gossiping about her behind her back. 

Due to her intelligence she skyrocketed and skipped a few grades. By age 8 she had switched to the Canterlot Academy after begging her mothers and entered in grade 7. Around this time, Star Bright was born. Athena delved further into her reading- partly out of jealousy that her new little sister was getting all the attention.

Pre-Teen: Age 11-14 years old, pre-teen Athena cut her mane to be more straight and precise like her mother, Twilight's. Her body, transitioning from foal to adolescent, became longer and she was a bit gawky. With straight thin legs and a wiry frame. She got braces at 11 and wore them until she was 13.

She became very active in the academy's academic programs and clubs. She had discovered she was very competitive when it came to academics and studied hard to become the top of her class and the top of the nation's students. She started coming out of her library more and attended galas and other royal events at the Castle. 

She made some friends from the clubs and activities she involved herself in but they were the kind of friends you just nod to in the hall. The only ponies she really enjoyed being around were her Aunts, Luna and Celestia, Spike, her mother Twilight, Star Bright (In small, small doses), and Clairvoyance. She drifted away from Rainbow Dash, the shame of her defected wings covered up with angst. No one said anything about them anymore but she felt like she could feel their eyes on them, especially pegasus eyes, They were always filled with pity and she hated it.

By this age her magic capacity grew and she was able to learn and cast more spells. She even performed in some Unicorn Duels in school to showcase her impressive knowledge. 

*Teen: Age 15-18, Athena reached the fun ol' years of adolescence. She graduated a valedictorian at the academy at 14, and exited the gawky stage quite quickly. Done with school, Athena fell into a pit she'd dug for herself. No friends outside the castle, no idea what to do with herself. She retreated into the castle library to read. A lot.

At this time she began star-gazing again, like when she was a baby. She spent some more time with her Aunt Luna, watching her raise the moon and listening to her talk about dreams. She stopped caring about her mane, letting it grow out. Even wearing a braid again. She was lost- out of school without even finding out who she was.

So Athena read, and read. Absorbing knowledge and learning spells. She occupied herself with learning.

And then she learned that her mothers wanted to have another baby. And that they were specifically trying for a pegasus foal. Athena became immensely depressed, locking herself away in the library and being passively aggressive with Rainbow Dash. She even starting looking in to a spell to fix her wings or give her new ones. She believed Rainbow Dash resented her for not being able to fly, that she was a disappointment.

Shortly after her baby brother was born, Athena and Dash had a heart-to-heart. And after this Athena got better and started spending more time with her mothers and her siblings, and less time in the library. She also began teaching Star Bright magic along with Twilight. Though still, Athena had rough days were she laid in her bed and wondered what to do with her life.
